A poem, then, an inspiration, the sound of words, their shapes and colours, their rhythm too, the music of meaning, a composition, a score.

The lied and the melody are first and foremost poetic material that we take hold of, to pass on words and through them, mysteries, surprises, laughter and contemplation... emotions!

All of this is written by two people, since the poem and the score both meet; echoing these two creators is another duo, combining voice and piano, in our case a soprano and a pianist.

Since 2020, our duo has been building beyond the roles traditionally assigned to our instruments, in search of a fluid communication that creates a space of freedom. We trained with a number of international specialists in lieder and mélodie, such as Susan Manoff, Philippe Biros and Véronique Gens. We graduated from the classes of Anne Le Bozec and Jeff Cohen at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.

But that is only a part of our story.

We're inspired by the idea of breaking down the barriers between the arts by injecting theatre into our recitals. We want the audience to experience the concert in an intense way of traveling in several dimensions: to find contemplation and beauty, but also a place for reflection, a place that concerns them directly in their daily lives. This is above all what we're looking for when we build our programmes (the process is sometimes long...!). The idea is for the works to illuminate and influence each other.


One of our roles is also to be the presentation label at the bottom of a painting in a museum, isn't it? The insert that explains the context of the work.

So we try to open the cover a little and try to show what makes a lied or a melody so beautiful and powerful. What is it about? What is the text about? Why, in relation to this or that word in the poem, do we find the composer's choices interesting?
It's our research, we haven't found all the keys... but the intention of our duo is to fulfil the project of a composer who has found himself or herself confronted in one way or another with a poem. To retrace the creative path of each work, according to its period. A poem is the very essence of a century.

We believe in a form of theatrical recital.
We offer themed programmes with well-known and completely hidden works from various periods. In order to reduce the distance between the language barrier and the very structure of the piano-singing recital, we completely break down the 4th wall. We want it to live and breathe. We like to talk, explain and translate. We want to take you on a journey through time.

From the first moment we met, the intimate setting provided by the combination of soprano voice and theorbo immediately appealed to us.

The first steps in our duo were taken in 2018 at the CRR de Paris with a sacred work: the Stabat Mater by Sances, an Italian treasure from the 17th century. Since our admission in the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris the same year, we have continued our work together with great care.

Our approach is to perform the chosen works as a duo. These works are often written for larger ensembles, but we want to highlight the intimate profile of these pieces. It's a desire to arrange and create new scores to offer a unique recital, whether in a concert hall, at the bedside of a sick person or in a classroom.
